One intriguing thing that our group discovered looking at Uncle Tom’s Cabin through Voyant was not so much related to what words recurred most often, but what words recurred not as often as you might think. The most frequently recurring word in the novel is “said,” which might suggest to someone who has never read it that it is quite heavy on dialogue. However, words related to slavery occur surprisingly infrequently, with some less that 20 times. Furthermore, the graph below demonstrates that most words related to slavery occur closer to the novel’s end.
